In a November 2008 survey, 384 farmers across the Prairies were asked “If you wanted more information about midge tolerant wheat, which would be your preferred source of information?” Of the respondents, who were allowed to choose more than one answer, 57% said Seed Dealers, 28% said Crop Protection Retailers, and 19% said Crop Consultants were their preferred source of information.
Farmers will be asking about this technology, so it’s up to you to be informed. As a retailer of midge tolerant wheat varieties, you will be required to communicate and educate farmers on this new technology and the stewardship agreement that accompanies its use.
To help, the Midge Tolerant Wheat Stewardship Team has prepared an online training program that’s quick and easy for you to complete at your convenience. The training program consists of the following steps:
